Now that Squeaky's a bit older, and doesn't need so much milk, I've been on the look out for drinks for her. She does drink water, but she prefers things with some flavour to them. You should see the difference in how much she's prepared to drink. And I've been looking for something that's not all sugary or squash. So I was delighted to get the chance to try out the Peter Rabbit organic juice drinks.
The juices come in three flavours, Pear (which was my favourite), Blackcurrant & Apple, and Apple & Grape, all diluted to an appropriate level for young tummies. There's an extending straw attached, which fits securely in place in the carton, minimising the chances of juice being squeezed everywhere. I say minimising, but nothing will completely take that risk away, my carpet is testament to this!
Squeaky really enjoyed the drinks, and quickly mastered drinking from the straw, though this was something we hadn't tried before. The 150ml cartons are just the right size for a child's drink, and fit nicely into a packed lunch, so they're ideal for out & about.
With no artificial ingredients, organic juice, and added vitamin C, they seem to be a good choice, though the single serving packs are quite expensive for an everyday purchase at 55p each. At home I'd probably rather dilute the juice the rest of the family drinks. But for out & about or travelling, they are handy, and I'm prepared to pay a bit more for convenience.
The only criticism I have is that on two out of the three cartons I received, the straws had come off in transit. This is actually likely to be due to my superpowers, one of which is the ability to find the carton drinks with no straws. But it does mean that if the carton is in the bottom of a bag, the straw could go missing.
Would I buy them again? To be honest, probably not, but that's mostly because I haven't seen them stocked in my local supermarket. They are sold by Asda, Sainsburys, Waitrose, Ocado & other retailers, so it might just be my shop.

It's funny you should mention that the straws could come off at the bottom of your bag.....that's what happened last Sunday to me in Pizza Express, after rooting around for a while I pulled out what I thought was the straw, declaring 'here it is' as I waved around my Tampax Pearl!! Much to the amusement of my 8 & 10 yr olds!!
ReplyDeleteOh Helen, that's mortifying! So easily done though, I've pulled tampons out looking for pens before, but thankfully only at home. Hope you didn't try to drink through it!
